Petrochemical Corridor

Petrochemical infrastructure along the Mississippi corridor.

The stretch of highway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans runs alongside one of the densest concentrations of petrochemical infrastructure in North America. Refineries, cracker units, storage terminals, and pipeline manifolds occupy the low ground between the levees and the highway for miles without interruption.

The industrial corridor predates the interstate. Plants here were sited for river access — the Mississippi as logistics artery, not backdrop. The water is invisible behind the levees but the whole landscape is oriented toward it.

In October the heat is still serious. The flare stacks burn in daylight, barely visible. The facility signage is the only human scale in the frame.
